See you on Thursday April 12 from 6-9 pm.  Bring your machine, latest project, supplies to do name tag and/or block with focus on negative space (see March meeting recap).

If you made progress on your modern color wheel bring that too.

Modern Quilting for Everyone

I've been asked recently to explain modern quilting and who can participate.  Reality is, modern quilting is for anyone who wants to explore a new venue of quilting.  Whether you are a newbie or a quilter with lots of experience. your interest in trying something new is welcome.

According to the explanation from The Modern Quilt Guild, the following description summarize better than I could.  Modern Quilting includes:

• making of functional quilts
• use of asymmetry
• use of reinterpreted traditional blocks
• simplicity, minimalism and use of negative space
• improvisational piecing
• bold colors, trend colors, graphic, geometric prints
• use of gray as a neutral
• frequent use of solids
• finishing quilts on home machines
• no rules as you create

Modern quilters use the beauty of freedom in their quilts and focus on the modern aesthetic.  You don't have to follow a certain pattern but with the new patterns found on many of the blogs it sure is tempting.  I love the simplicity that males a big statement in these new modern quilts.
