Meeting Recap

Thanks to everyone who came to the first meeting. It was a great start for our chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild.  Keep spreading the word for potential members.  I hope everyone is having fun looking for fabric to create their modern version of a color wheel.  See you on March 8th.

Meeting Recap for Feb 9, 2012.   The first meeting of the Northern Illinois Modern Quilt Guild was called to order by Marie Glasby.  Everyone introduced themselves by giving a brief background of their quilting experience and their expectations for the guild.

A lively discussion followed about Modern quilting and how this guild would operate as a Modern Quilt Guild.

The following guidelines were agreed to:
·         Meet the 2nd Thursday of every Month from 6:00 – 9 PM.  Socialize during 1st half hour.  Members can bring their own snacks.
·         Follow the principles laid out by original guild.
·         3 to 4 speakers per year.
·         Dues will be $20 the first year and payable at the March meeting.
·         Newcomers can attend 2 meetings for free to allow adequate time to decide if they want to join.
·         Members will help each other get “out of the box” when it comes to quilting and explore the modern style.
The following people were selected as officers:

President – Marie Glasby
Vice President – Charon Neul
Treasurer – Caren Vollrath
Secretary – LeAnn Pottebaum

Susan Sobon has also volunteered to be our Photographer.

After elections, the guild agreed to do the Color Wheel Project for next month.  Members are encouraged to work on a non-traditional color wheel for a small wall quilt.  Some ideas were given at meeting and here is a link for more
Everyone can bring their sewing machines and work on the project during the next meeting.

Next Meeting: Thursday March 8 – Color Wheel Project, Dues and ideas.

First Meeting

Less than a week until the first meeting.  Hope you are spreading the word to find other modern quilters who want to join us.  Bring any modern quilts you have done or modern quilt books to share for our first show and tell.  Don't forget your calendars and ideas so we can plan and organize upcoming meetings.  Looking forward to new friends and new inspiration.
